The servant's life was never filled with luxury. He fought with other servant's over the table scraps that their master threw out after each meal. He went to sleep late only to have to wake up early to be able to have his master's bath and clothes prepared for the day. Any mistake was harshly punished and rarely was one ever rewarded. The last ten years of his servitude were greatly awaited, after which he would be free once more. The day his master sent him to town to buy a new bookcase was the day things changed. While walking to the shop for the bookcase an old man came forward and begged him for a single coin. The servant bent forward and gave the old man one of the few gold coins he had managed to keep hidden from his master. The old man bowed low thanking the servant and saying how his life would be blessed for his kindness. The servant returned back to his master's home with the bookcase in tow and the night went to sleep wondering how any blessing could come from a servant's life.
